David Sloane's Expertise as a not so silent Witness
Whether it was high profile court cases such as George Michael versus Sony Music Entertainment or MTV versus PPL, the music business seems to like nothing better than a good scrap in the courts.
But judges can struggle to follow a complex royalty or financial case and often need to rely on an expert to clarify the points being made.
David Sloane at Sloane & Co. is a member of the British Academy of Experts and a checked Expert with the Law Society. As a result, he is regularly called upon by the prosecution and defence teams to give background information and advice on tax, royalty and financial issues during a case.
These cases have ranged from assessing whether damages claimed by a band member who left a tour halfway through, to a dispute between a water company and a flooded recording studio wanting compensation. He was also an investigating accountant on the infamous Gilbert O'Sullivan case, which changed music history.
David Sloane stresses that there is never a conflict of interest with his other work. He says, "I will turn down a case if a client is involved or if there is a connection. My duty is to the court and I must believe in what I am saying".
